NET ACADEMY TRAINING STRUCTURE
Developed for performance development and excelling your game!
The NET ACADEMY exposes its athletes to an intense 16 week training programme that aims to help them to reach the next level of their performance.
We really care about helping players to develop as individuals, to get stronger, faster, more skill-full and to think more tactically about the game. It’s never about who the player is when they join but about how they can develop and who they can be!
Each session aims to develop one (or more) of our five performance principles to ensure that athletes are able to learn, train, and perform on court whilst feeling safe to try new things and develop their own thinking around the game.
THE FIVE PERFORMANCE PRINCIPLES
In each session at the academy, athletes will be exposed to strength and conditioning training to help improve physical potential; fundamental (FAB) skill training to improve technical skills and movement; game sense practices and game design to help develop tactical awareness and in turn help mould players with a psychological edge.
The academy has four phases of learning to help its athletes to excel both their execution and understanding of the game. Each phase runs for 4 weeks and athletes will be given a checklist of skills, focuses and questions that they should be able to demonstrate, develop and answer throughout the course of the 4 weeks to demonstrate their development.
Phases of Learning
- Passing, Receiving and Movement Fundamentals
- Attacking Principles
- Defensive Principles
- Tactical Development and Thinking on Court
Each phase is developed differently dependent on the age group of the academy and is also reviewed and developed each year to ensure continued development of returning athletes to the programme.
As well as working with the players on court, we also encourage players to be accountable for their own development through our Athlete Focus Plans (AFPs). The AFPs are an important stage of athlete development and learning within the academy as it helps players to reflect on performance and training and set goals for the future so that they can continue to excel.
Coaches will work with all athletes on a 1:1 basis in weeks 2, 8 and 14 of the programme to complete the AFPs and helping to set and focus goals using SMARTER principled to set achievable targets for development away from the academy programme.
Continued development and support is important to us. We want to be able to work with and support our athletes at every stage of their journey. That is why all Academy Athletes also gain FREE access to our online NET MEMBERSHIP for the 16 weeks they are enrolled with us to help support their athletic development beyond the Academy Court.
