The Importance of Prioritising

It is easy to feel overwhelmed. Not only are you trying to play well and improve your game, but you are probably also trying to juggle work/school, a social life, extra training, family commitments, extra training sessions and trying to fit a rest day in aswell.

It almost seems impossible to ‘do it all’ and still exist like a normal human being. But you can!

In order to get the most out of your training and your life schedule, you need to understand the importance of prioritising. Understanding what is important to you, what will make you happy and what will help you to achieve your goals.

If you don’t plan your own schedule, someone else will!

If you really do want to ‘have it all’ you have to throw out the ‘to-do’ list filled with non-essential activities and tasks and really think about what is important to you!

What is on your list right now? Does it make you happy? Will it help you to achieve a personal goal? Will it help you to grow into the person you want to become? If you can’t answer yes to any of these questions, then it’s time to GET RID!

In order to really start chasing your dreams and to stop feeling overwhelmed you need to decide what’s essential and what’s trivial (a distraction).

Essential things:

  • Make you happy
  • Help you to achieve a goal
  • Help you to learn
  • Help you to become a better person
  • Make you excited when you think about them
  • Are important to you

Trivial things:

  • Stress you out
  • You find it hard to fit them into your diary
  • Make you miserable
  • Something you do not want to do
  • Do not satisfy you
  • Are important to other people

If you can start to chip away at your ever-growing to-do list or overflowing diary and begin to categorise and sort tasks and activities into essential and trivial then you will start to regain control of your own schedule again.

Don’t be afraid to prioritise what’s import to you and to say ‘no’ to others.

You only have one opportunity to chase your dreams!
