Reasons Why You Aren’t Progressing and Getting Better
Sometimes, despite enjoying the training that we are doing, we reach a point where we aren’t seeing improvements. Perhaps you aren’t getting faster, you can lift heavier, you can’t pass as powerfully or keep up with your team mates.
This a regular phase in training and is known as a plateau. This is when your body adapts to the demands of a training plan and therefore no longer benefits from it. For example, if you have a certain training plan to help you achieve a 20 minute 5km run and achieve that goal, it is unlikely that the same training plan would help you to reach a better time.
Just like our minds, our bodies need structure and regular adaptation and changes in order to force them to react, change and develop. If you are looking to improve certain skills in your training, get a certain time on a fitness test or lift a certain weight you need to make sure you are following a varied plan that caters for your goals and needs.
Generally a training phase will last around 6 weeks, a good trainer would then adapt to a programme to further push your body to change and adapt so that you can continue to see progress.
After a 6 week training cycle you should then look to alter movements, add or increase weight, change movement patters, increase running distances.
If you are looking for something to help support your own training, why not have a look at your online coaching. We will work with you to create a training plan to support our training both on and off the court so that you can achieve your best.
