Coaching Decision Making Through Gameplay

“The best thing you can do is put your players in the coaching seat”

Decision making one of the most important skills you want your players to have, but it’s one of the hardest things to coach.

That’s because it requires coaches to take a step back and allow the players to do the thinking, which let’s face it, isn’t our favourite thing to do. So how can you encourage players to make the right decisions?

The best thing you can do is to put your players in the coaching seat, give them control and then use the experience as a way to ask probing questions about the decisions they have made and how they positively or negatively impacted play.

NET have designed our exclusive ‘Game Play Decisions Cards’ to help you to do exactly that and the best news is, they are FREE and available to download.

Coaches can use these cards by giving a deck to each team at the start of match play. Players can then use each card once throughout their game to help influence their game and improve their score. Each of the cards require the players to think about when would be a good time to use them and how they might be used to help give their team the advantage in the game. What’s more they are forced to make these decisions whilst playing, replicating the decisions they will have to make in a game.

If you want to give them a try, head over to our resources section and download them for free. The resource comes with coaches instructions and two different colour card decks to there is no confusion between teams. Either print them out or download straight to your phone for players to easily use.
