How To Choose the Right Trainers

You may remember that I have recently swapped my trainers to Mizuno and I have not looked back. I have found their netball trainers supportive on the court and in training and am so glad that I have made the swap. But are you wearing the right trainers for the game?

At school, I feel that I am constantly fighting a losing battle with some of my girls. They turn up to training in ‘fashion trainers’ which do not support their ankles, have ample grip for the court or even allow them to perform at their best, yet they insist in wearing them week after week.

In an attempt to get them to wear the correct trainers I try to make them understand that the trainers we wear can have a direct impact on our performance and wearing a running trainer to netball just isn’t going to cut it. But what is the difference between a running trainer and a court trainer? And why should you make the swap?

Mizuno have been working hard to push their #maketheswap campaign to show netballers everywhere the importance in selecting a good shoe for the court. Take a look at their video and see for yourself.

After making the swap myself, I was intrigued to see how making the right choice for my running trainers might see a change in my performance. After trying out the new Mizuno Wave 24, I was surprised to learn how supported I felt in my running and how comfortable it was to ‘pound the pavements’.

After suffering from running related plantar fasciitis during the UK lockdown, I didn’t think I would get back to long distance running after a long time. However the difference the running trainer made was incredible and, after some rest and some shorter runs, I was back to my usual Sunday long runs in no time.

Moral of the story is to invest in trainers that are going to support you no matter what sport it is that you are playing. It will help your performance and more importantly help you to avoid injury, meaning you can keep playing to your hearts content!
